In a major policy shift, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has officially lifted its earlier restriction on the construction of high-rise buildings taller than 70 meters, paving the way for ambitious vertical development in the city. The announcement, made by a senior civic official last week, confirmed that the Town Planning Department will now resume granting approvals for all such projects.
The decision marks a reversal of the two-year moratorium imposed in August, which was originally linked to limitations in fire-safety infrastructure. At the time, the NMC Fire Department had floated a tender for a 90-meter hydraulic ladder—a key piece of equipment required to meet safety standards for taller structures. However, the tender failed to attract viable bids.
Although an initial order had been placed with a supplier, the vendor later cited financial challenges and withdrew, prompting the Fire Department to restart the tender process. With the procurement expected to take up to two years, the Town Planning Department had temporarily halted permissions for buildings exceeding the height threshold.
With the ban now lifted, developers and stakeholders in the real estate sector are expected to benefit from increased flexibility in design and planning, potentially transforming Nashik’s skyline and opening doors to more premium residential and commercial projects.
